The Chronicle Of Coaching
The Chronicle of Coaching provides a snapshot of what’s happening in the coaching profession, and is updated weekly. Compiled and edited by Ruth Ann Harnisch, Christine Heinrichs, and Linda Ballew.
In this week’s Chronicle: Scotland Yard steps in to help Jamaican authorities find a coach’s killer, and in the U.S., the coaching community notes the passing of one of its modern pioneers. This week, we see coaches working with MBA students, single men on the prowl, Major League Baseball players, dieters, commuters, nonprofit boards, and of course, other coaches. There’s scientific evidence that coaching makes physical changes in the brain, and there’s anecdotal evidence about high-pressure selling of coaching services. One item worth noting – a major U.S. gathering of broadcasters offers many opportunities for coaching. When media gatekeepers are exposed to something, media attention inevitably follows. So we’re planning to stay tuned for future stories about coaching inspired by the broadcasters’ personal experiences.
And as always, if we missed anything, let us know at info@thefoundationofcoaching.org

Historical facts from the evolution of coaching
By Vikki G. Brock
Coaching developed in parallel in France and German-speaking countries in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s as it did in the English-speaking countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States, though the terminology may have been different, according to Hannes Entz, a former ICF Board member from Germany
In France, coaching evolved from psychotherapists and psychology with strong Freudian roots, according to Jane Turner, founder of Le Dojo, a coach training school in France and Alain Cardon, founder of Metasystemes, a coach training school in France.
In Germany, coaching developed out of organization development, training and workplace psychology.
In the United Kingdom, psychologists and consultants doing coaching co-exist.
