The Chronicle Of Coaching
The Chronicle of Coaching provides a snapshot of what’s happening in the coaching profession, and is updated weekly. Compiled and edited by Ruth Ann Harnisch, Christine Heinrichs, and Linda Ballew.
In this week’s Chronicle:: In the state of California, a city manager had rocky relationships that caused problems for over a decade, with a series of interventions which included executive coaching. Apparently nothing's working – her suspension is in the news this week.
The NBA honors its Coach of the Year while other athletic coaches get praise in print too.
Major media feature coaching: The Today Show's life coach gets viewers on the Road to Happiness; The New York Times serves up the scoop on nutrition coaches, with an extra helping of commentary on the subject from one blogging coach. O, The Oprah Magazine, links to a rich archive of columns by life coach Martha Beck, and Oprah's dogs' coach (yes, you read that right) gets a pat on the head from Entertainment Tonight.
Coaches advise business leaders to get up earlier, make more effective use of conferences, and find solutions instead of mere answers. Cognitively disabled young people achieve independent living with the support of job coaches. In Africa, a nurse/coach teaches the facts of life on the soccer field. A religious organization offers coaching to resolve sexual issues.
Coaches convene in Hong Kong, Vancouver BC and Monterey, CA.
Coach bloggers weigh in on definitions of coaching, developing talent within organizations, what makes a coach great, EQ in the workplace. Coaches are invited to a new online business forum. A music industry journalist switches sides: now he coaches aspiring stars on meeting the media by sharing insider’s knowledge of the fame game. And finally, a Mamapalooza of an offer.
