The Chronicle Of Coaching
The Chronicle of Coaching provides a snapshot of what’s happening in the coaching profession, and is updated each Wednesday at noon EDT. Compiled and edited by Linda Ballew and Ruth Ann Harnisch.
In this week’s Chronicle: In India, coaching programs are under investigation, accused of promising their students guaranteed admission to top schools. Datelines this week include Sri Lanka, the U.K., Canada, and the U.S. The electronic coach continues to make cultural incursions – there’s a wireless wearable wherein an electronic coach literally whispers in your ear. And the “My Life Coach” videogame, yet to make its official debut, will be joined by My French Coach and other language brand extensions. Themes we see regularly: Coaches work with clients on Wellness, Small Business, Executive Leadership, Succession Planning, Retirement, and Today’s Living for Boomers. And as always, if we missed anything, please let us know at info@thefoundationofcoaching.org
CONTRIBUTORS: We welcome your suggestions for inclusions in The Chronicle of Coaching. Please let us know about articles, broadcasts, blogs, and other instances of coaching in the culture.

Historical facts from the evolution of coaching
By Vikki G. Brock
Werner Erhard founded Erhard Seminar Training, which became known as est, in 1971 in San Francisco, California. This was a large-scale approach to help people grow and develop by focusing on how they experience themselves. Est was very confrontational and rigorous. People had to take responsibility and ownership for their own “inner garbage,” according to Rey Carr of Peer Resources.
In 1975, est, the educational corporation, was formed with the Forum as its primary program. The Forum’s main content contributor was Fernando Flores, and he incorporated the principles of language creation to step beyond inner dialogue and move to a new level of thinking, learning and purpose.
