The Chronicle Of Coaching
The Chronicle of Coaching provides a snapshot of what’s happening in the coaching profession, and is updated each Wednesday at noon EDT. Compiled and edited by Linda Ballew and Ruth Ann Harnisch.
In this week’s Chronicle: A Texas man sentenced to prison for possession of child porn this week was known as a motivational speaker, but he also claimed to offer “life coaching”. A UK newspaper reports growing demand for coaching, and we have the usual “What’s Coaching All About” articles and features. Note that your white-collar client may be a thief, and then check out how to develop trust in the workplace. Matchmaking coaches for older singles set a high price on their services. Also in this week’s Chronicle, you’ll find a variety of bloggers, coaching teleconferences, workshops, websites, streaming radiocasts and seminars gearing up for the change of seasons. As always, if we missed anything, please let us know at info@thefoundationofcoaching.org

Historical facts from the evolution of coaching
By Vikki G. Brock
In December 1980, Results Unlimited was born in the United Kingdom when Jinny Ditzler created an 8-10 week course called Personal Effectiveness Program (PEP). According to Chris Morgan, this process was delivered one-to-one “to put individuals in touch with their life goals through dialogue experience to realize their potential.” In mid-1981 Jinny was joined by Graham Alexander, one of the top business coaches in the United Kingdom. Graham Alexander described Results Unlimited as “applied enlightenment.” By 1982, Jinny and Graham began to train coaches to deliver the program. In March 1983, the newspaper “The Standard” published an article about Jinny and Results Unlimited doing what was then called “individual counseling.”
