The Chronicle Of Coaching
The Chronicle of Coaching provides a snapshot of what’s happening in the coaching profession, designed to show where and how coaching appears in the popular culture worldwide. It is not intended to be a summary service nor a news roundup, although it may serve that purpose for some readers. The Chronicle is updated each Wednesday at noon EDT. Compiled and edited by Alex Goldsmith, Linda Ballew and Ruth Ann Harnisch.

In this week’s Chronicle: If you Google “Coach” and “Cheat” this week, you’ll get over two million hits because one of the most famous and successful coaches in the USA’s National Football League was involved in a scandal – will his lack of integrity reflect badly on the profession in general? In South Africa, a conference for government officials highlights successful techniques in coaching and training. Coaches profiled this week include an actor turned coach helping Israelis with workplace “performance.” There are informational articles on workplace coaching, with the female-executive niche highlighted. Coaching programs for young people include one in which teens learn to run a business, and the business of helping college students graduate receives attention. Other topics include happiness, emotional intelligence, management skills and organizational coaching. As always, if we missed anything, please let us know at info@thefoundationofcoaching.org

CONTRIBUTORS: We welcome your suggestions for inclusions in The Chronicle of Coaching. Please let us know about articles, broadcasts, blogs, and other instances of coaching in the culture.

Historical facts from the evolution of coaching
By Vikki G. Brock

In 1986 in Germany, a colleague of Werner Vogelauer formulated a short article under the title “Coaching – Personal Counseling of Leaders…personal counseling and clearing of the problem with a neutral talking partner who has experience with the business and private situations as well as experience in professional conversation”.
Vogelauer described the five session process:
What are the aims of the coaching-sessions?
* To work for a clear orientation to the problem and its parts.
* To establish a process for the further steps and solutions.
* To create a larger view and combinations to career planning.
* To talk about according activities like literature, special seminars etc.
Your contract may be by telephone, a coaching talk with a date, and we run a first session to bring in your situation. This first session is without cost.
