The Chronicle Of Coaching
The Chronicle of Coaching provides a snapshot of what’s happening in the coaching profession, designed to show where and how coaching appears in the popular culture worldwide. It is not intended to be a summary service nor a news roundup, although it may serve that purpose for some readers. The Chronicle is updated each Wednesday at noon EDT. Compiled and edited by Alex Goldsmith, Linda Ballew and Ruth Ann Harnisch.
In this week’s Chronicle: There’s a report from India saying would-be coaches there can now seek training in their own country instead of relying on schools in other countries such as Australia or the USA. Here’s an example of the international bounce of coaching news: a major investment and insurance company is coaching its executives in Hong Kong using an Australian company, as reported by press in the United Arab Emirates. Also this week, we see prospective clients using the internet to find coaches with whom they are most compatible. The gardening coach phenomenon blooms in San Francisco. An ex-football player finds his passion in life coaching. Peer coaching becomes more widespread. A newspaper columnist gets a dating coach, ignores her advice, and then complains about the results. One coach advises keeping your current job while planning your dream job as Option B. As always, if we missed anything, please let us know at info@thefoundationofcoaching.org

Historical facts from the evolution of coaching
By Vikki G. Brock
Some of the roots of coaching in Scandinavia began to grow in 1997, when Johan Tandberg of Sweden received a scholarship to attend Coach U. He attended the 1998 ICF conference, and became a member of the ICF board in 1999. Tandberg gathered together a group of eight, from the Scandinavian countries in 1999, who formed the nucleus of the Nordic Coach Federation, which was launched in 2000. As the first president, Tandberg rotated the location of the Nordic conference among different Scandinavian countries to support the growth of coaching throughout the region. According to Lori Shook, in 2001, Coach Training Institute brought training to Norway using a trained cadre of Scandinavian coaches as trainers.
