Who is eligible for a research grant from The Foundation of Coaching?
Anyone is eligible to submit a research proposal for funding consideration by The Foundation of Coaching.
Can independent researchers or practitioners apply for research grants?
Yes. There is no need to be affiliated with an academic or research institution in order to submit a research proposal to The Foundation of Coaching. However, all researchers must demonstrate their understanding of correct research protocols or show evidence that they have a research mentor or supervisor for the project.
Can graduate students apply for grants?
Yes. The Foundation of Coaching supports graduate and post-graduate research after it has been approved by the school or institution’s IRB or ethical review board, and the student’s academic advisors or dissertation committee.
Can institutions apply for grants?
Yes.
What expenses can a Foundation grant cover?
Foundation grants cover expenses incurred in the process of doing research, including travel and conference registrations as part of data gathering, translations, transcriptions, phone calls, faxes, etc.
Grants are not meant to cover researcher time, faculty expenses (i.e. travel for external reviewers or committee members), salaries, gifts or gratuities, or capital equipment (i.e. computers, tape recorders, etc.), or presentations or writing for the purpose of disseminating the research results.
At the end of the research project period, researchers will be required to submit an itemized list of all expenses that were covered by The Foundation of Coaching grant.
Can I submit more than one proposal at a time?
No, only one proposal per researcher can be considered at any one time.
Can I re-submit a proposal that was rejected?
Yes, but only if re-submission is requested by the Foundation.
Are Foundation grants available for translating existing research into other languages?
No. Foundation grants are only for new research. However, translations can be identified as items in proposal budgets.
How quickly must the research project be completed?
Projects funded by The Foundation of Coaching must be completed according to the timeline and schedule submitted as part of the application process.
How long is the research paper expected to be?
There is no minimum or maximum length for research papers funded by The Foundation of Coaching.
Will the Foundation own the rights to the research?
No, the rights to the research will remain with the researcher.
Will the Foundation publish the research?
The Foundation retains the rights to publish research it funds, whether in print or electronically. Upon completion of a funded research project, the Foundation will publish a summary of the research outcomes on its website.
What documents are requested as part of the research proposal submission?
An application for a Foundation of Coaching Research Grant must include the following documents:
In order to be considered for review, the proposal package must be complete and include all the above documents.
The Foundation Grant Criteria state that there must be a matching grant made by another agency, with funds going through the Foundation.
What if another institution offers the matching grant and does not wish to go through the Foundation?
The Foundation of Coaching will review matching grant arrangements on a case-by-case basis.
Can the recipient's institution receive the research grant?
Yes. The Foundation awards grants to institutions on a case-by-case basis.
How often are grant proposals considered by The Foundation of Coaching?
Research proposals are considered for approval twice a year: in January and July. Proposals should be received by June 1 and December 1 in order to be considered for the next review cycle.
How long does the review process take?
The proposal review process can take several weeks. Researchers who submit proposals are notified at several times during the review process: when their proposal has been received, when it is sent for review, and when a funding decision has been made.
