What We Are Doing

The Foundation of Coaching is dedicated to the development of coaching as a profession, and as a way of making a positive difference in the world through the lives of individuals.

The Foundation of Coaching Research Repository

Research is a cornerstone in the development of excellence in any profession.

The Foundation of Coaching is collecting published academic studies on coaching. This body of research is available in a keyword searchable online repository. We invite you to take a look at the repository and let us know what you think. If you are the author of a published academic study, we’d like to include your research. Please contact us at info@thefoundationofcoaching.org.

The Foundation of Coaching has $100,000 in research grants available for independent research in 2007-2008.

Because we are dedicated to the development of coaching as a profession, The Foundation of Coaching commissions coaching-related research. Our Research Advisory Panel, led by Dr. Mary Wayne Bush, includes Dr. Alison Carter, (London Institute of Employment Studies) Dr. Michael Cavanagh, (Sydney University) Dr. James Hunt, (Babson College) and Dr. Dianne Stober (Fielding Graduate University). This distinguished group will be assessing and reviewing proposals that will move the coaching industry forward.Click here for information about applying for a research grant.

The Foundation of Coaching is initiating international dialogue that inspires leading-edge thinking.

At the 2006 Coaching Summit in Vancouver, British Columbia, convened by the International Coaching Federation, many of the leading figures in coaching met for the purpose of “Evolving the Conversation: A Summit on the Future of Coaching.” The participants agreed that another global summit should take place, this time convened by The Foundation of Coaching.

In that spirit of continuing the global dialogue and coaching conversations, the Coaching Commons (www.coachingcommons.org) was born. The Commons enables lively coaching conversations worldwide, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. You are invited to join this ground-breaking community of coaching professionals, coaching clients and those who are curious about the coaching field.

The Foundation of Coaching, a project of the Harnisch Foundation, is also planning a live event for 2009, as we keep our ongoing conversations spreading among a variety of provocative and pioneering coaches worldwide.

Other Global Dialogues take place in conjunction with various events where coaches are gathering.

Please let us know if your organization would like to have a Global Dialogue hosted by TFoC.

If you would like an more information on global dialogues among coaches, visit the Coaching Commons (www.coachingcommons.org) or contact us at info@thefoundationofcoaching.org.

The Foundation of Coaching is electing Global Visionary Fellows, whose past achievements merit acknowledgment and recognition, and whose current work merits support.

The Foundation of Coaching created the Global Visionary Fellowship Program to recognize, honor, and encourage support for visionaries who have demonstrated creative thinking and bold action in the field of coaching.

The Fellowship is designed to call attention to significant contributions to the development of coaching in practice and as a profession. Global Visionary Fellows receive a stipend intended to help them pursue a project that advances the impact of coaching in the world.

The Foundation of Coaching is recording the history of coaching.

The Foundation of Coaching's History and Archive Division, led by Vikki G. Brock, is documenting the history of the field of coaching and compiling a comprehensive list of individuals, organizations, and other influencers, and maintaining a repository of non-research articles and publications. We plan to publish this information in a series of books, online publications, a Coachpedia, and in other formats.  “From the Coaching Archives” is a regular feature of the Chronicle of Coaching that shares historical highlights and news from the History and Archive Division.

The Foundation of Coaching shares the latest coaching news and tracks upcoming events. On our website, the Chronicle of Coaching showcases coaching in the news, where coaching is showing up in the popular culture, new books and products of interest to coaches, and highlights of coaches’ publicity for themselves and the coaching field.  The Chronicle is updated weekly.

The Big Idea

Because we’re noncommercial, nonprofit, and not aligned with any school or other organization, we intend to serve as an independent resource for the coaching field.  We are bringing together a vast array of professional organizations, universities, colleges, training programs, coaches, clients, students and others interested in coaching worldwide. Our purpose is to provide a welcoming, respectful forum for the diversity of opinions and ideas about coaching throughout the world.

We are actively seeking partners in this work. If you are interested in volunteering or contributing, please write to us at info@thefoundationofcoaching.org
